South Shore Yacht Club has a long history of racing, dating back to its inception in 1957. Originally known as South Shore Sailing Club, the club is a senior member of Southern California Yachting Association and have offered racing opportunities to its membership for nearly sixty years.
Jim White Memorial Series
The Jim White Memorial Winter Series features four Saturdays, with two races each day starting at noon. As soon as the first race is completed the first warning for the second race of the day begins.

Ensenada Tune Up Race
A prequel to the Newport-to-Ensenada race is the cooperative race organized by South Shore Yacht and Dana Point Yacht Club. It’s a 14-nautical mile race between Newport Beach and Dana Point and typically occurs two-to-three weeks prior to the Newport-to-Ensenada race in the last full weekend in April.

Summer Hibachi Series
The SSYC Summer Hibachi Racing Series begins on the first Wednesday in June and continues every Wednesday through the month of August. The series features a different race course every Wednesday, so sailors don’t know what course the race committee selects until about ten minutes before the race. Changes in the initial start date will be posted on this website.

Crew of 2
The Crew of 2 Around Catalina is South Shore Yacht Club’s signature double-handed 90-nautical mile race around Catalina with a maximum of two skippers on board. A shorter 67-nautical mile course around Ship Rock is also offered. Below is the registration link for the Crew of 2 Around Catalina Challenge, and the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions. We again will be posting lists of "boat owner looking for co-skipper", and "co-skipper looking for boat owner/skipper" lists to help increase participation. Sunday Sailing Series
The Sunday Sailing Series is a 3-race series that occurs in August, September and October. The race starts in the main channel and extends out into the ocean to either the Balboa Pier or the Newport Pier. When wind conditions permit, it gives sailors an opportunity to fly their spinnakers. It provides those sailors who love the BYC Sunkist Series an opportunity to practice the race venue in shorts and t-shirts. Come on out and have some fun!
Holiday Regattas
SSYC's Holiday Regattas include the Halloween Regatta and The Turkey Regatta. Both are patterned after the Jim White Regatta with Saturday racing in the harbor.
