Hoist the Sails for Alamitos Bay! | June 12–14
All hands on deck! The weekend of June 12 through 14, South Shore Yacht Club is charting a course for the ever-charming Alamitos Bay.
We’ve made a tactical change in our voyage plans—swapping weekends with Oceanside—to avoid a flotilla traffic jam with another yacht club who is also headed that way on that same weekend. To ensure smooth docking we have made this decision . Oceanside will happen the weekend in November that we were going to Alamitos Bay.
Join us as we drop anchor in one of the finest harbors this side of the seven seas (and possibly all of California). With protective offshore breakwaters and a naturally beautiful bay, it’s the perfect port for a weekend of camaraderie, cruising, and loads of fun.
Friday Night: Potluck at Navy Yacht Club Our first port of call: the Navy Yacht Club, where we’ll gather for a potluck feast overlooking the bay.
Bring a dish fit for a hungry crew of 8–10—be it a hearty main, a tempting appetizer, or a dessert that could make a pirate weep. After the feast, linger awhile! Enjoy the company, the bar, and perhaps a second (or third) helping of something sweet. No judgment on this vessel.
Saturday Adventures: Choose Your Course Morning options include:
Saturday Evening: Pier Pressure & Dinner In the late afternoon, we’ll stroll along the iconic Seal Beach Pier—stretching an impressive 1,865 feet into the Pacific. That’s a lot of pier to practice your best “thoughtful gaze into the horizon.” From there, we’ll head ashore for dinner at a delightful local restaurant (details forthcoming—no need to fish for clues).
Sunday morning we'll head to a restaurant for a delicious brunch before heading home.

Ahoy, SSYC’ers!
Join us for the “Summer Hibachi Series”. Our next event is Wednesday, June 17th with the 1st warning at 1800 Hours. We’ll be on “Molokai Girl” that will pick us up at the dock at Marina Park at 1600 W. Balboa Boulevard. You will need to be there on the dock at 5:00 PM as we depart at 5:15 PM for the starting area Westerly of Harbor Island.
If you’d like to join us on the Race Committee boat, now’s your chance. No experience required. It just takes a handful of people to run the two starts and record finish times.
So, if you’d simply like to get out on the water, watch the racing and enjoy dinner and drinks in Newport Harbor, that’s okay, too. You’re responsible for your own dinner, drinks and rubber-soled shoes. No red wine, please, as a spill can stain the deck.
If you’d like to be on the Race Committee boat, please register ASAP as space is limited. Guests are welcome, but need to sign a waiver.
