Start of Newport-to-Ensenada Race
Come to Balboa Pier to see Staff Commodore Tom and the Pearl/Sapphire crew as they enter the starting area to cheer them on. Their start will likely be 11:00 (Exact time TBD).
We need everyone who can to join us at the start to cheer them on, Our support is crucial to Pearl/Sapphire finishing first or second as sometimes the races are determined on a very close finish.
Finish of Newport-to-Ensenada Race & Week-end at the 4 Star Hotel Coral in Ensenada.
After they start, we would leave the Balboa Pier and drive to the border. We plan on parking on the US side, walk across the border to the bus station. The ABC bus has typically cost $11.00 for a ticket to Ensenada on a luxury bus. Then, once we arrive at the bus station in Ensenada, we can get dinner downtown or simply call for a Uber to take us to the Hotel Coral.
Strongly recommend you obtain a Global Entry pass (You need to apply now) for a fast re-entry back to the USA.
Clive has reserved 5 Junior Suites (1 King) for the 2 nights at a total cost of $358.64 (including taxes) per room. No Standard Deluxe Suites (2 Fulls) were are available, but you can call the Hotel directly at 800-862-9020 and request the NOSA special rate to see if more rooms become available. No cancellation fees if cancelled 7 days in advance.
Please contact Clive directly to have the room transferred into your name on a first come basis.
Transportation to Ensenada Hotel Coral.
We have made arrangements (Thanks to Stacy McCartney) with the Hotel for Transportation from San Diego (Most probably in the Del Mar Area) to the Hotel Coral in Ensenada on April 25th. This also includes the return back to San Diego on April 27th.
The cost per person for round trip transportation for a 10 passenger van (limited luggage space) from San Diego is $75 person which includes the cost of the transportation and a tip for the driver. We are limited to 10 people. Please pay the invoice within 3 days to hold your place for the transportation, otherwise we will release the available places to the waitlist.
After they start, we would car pool to San Diego and we should have enough time to get lunch near the pick up location.
Please contact Clive directly to have the room transferred into your name on a first come basis if you have not already done so.
SSYC Cruise to Avalon, Catalina Island
JOIN US WHEN WE HEAD TO AVALON
MAY 1ST THROUGH THE 4TH
Join us the weekend of May 1st through the 4th as we cruise to the beautiful harbor of Avalon and all the fun that awaits us in Catalina. Most of us will arrive in Catalina on Thursday, May 1st.
Thursday night we will have a Welcome Reception
and Happy Hour on Molokai Girl at 5:00.
In order for us to plan this event, please let us know if you plan to arrive on Thursday. Otherwise, we will assume you will be arriving on Friday.
On Friday, we are headed over at 9:30 to rent golf carts for our annual tour of the island followed by lunch in town.
In the afternoon you can chill on the beach, or on your boat, and get ready for our Progressive Cocktail Hour. Try to come up with a very creative idea for your cocktail and appetizer and include costumes and decorations for your theme. Serve the cocktail in 4 oz or less cups or we will have too many drunk fish in the water! The Progressive will start at 4:30.
We will have a dingy parade after the last boat and end up on Molokai Girl for pizza and salad.
On Saturday, we will head to another one of our favorites, miniature golf. Prizes will be awarded, so practice up on your golf shots. After golf, we will walk to Descanso Beach for lunch. Dinner that night will be at one of our favorite restaurants. They do not make reservations so please plan to meet us in front of the restaurant at 5:30. Please join us after dinner on Molokai Girl for dessert.
We are really excited about this schedule of events, but if you would like to add something else or have any questions please contact me at sfa4all@gmail.com.
There is also an optional activity on the Yellow Submarine where you can take a trip down to six feet below the surface to explore the rich marine life of Lovers' Cove. Board the semi-submersible SS Nautilus, inspired by America's first nuclear powered submarine, where you can explore the Catalina Island's amazing undersea gardens. Equipped with torpedo buttons, adventurers can create a feeding frenzy right from their viewing porthole for an additional charge. On the way back to the marina, enjoy breathtaking harbor views on the top deck of the submarine. Please let us know if you want to join us for this event.
The cost for the weekend is $40 per person. The cutoff date for registering is Monday, April 28th. Please make sure to sign up right away on Wild Apricot and reserve your place. We look forward to an incredible weekend in Avalon with our SSYC family. Please let us know if you would like a ride over and back on Molokai Girl. However, Clive likes to leave very early. And we want to get back early on Sunday for American Legion's Opening Day.
If you decide that you can't make it for whatever reason, you must cancel by April 27th for a full refund.

Final payment due: November 9, 2025 (IMPORTANT!)
Check-in date: December 9, 2025
If anyone wants to join our group on the cruise, they should call the number above and provide the group number and name. They will NOT get our same fare; they will need to pay the current fare offered by Royal. Unlike when we went through the travel agent, who was able to hold a block of rooms at a certain price, we are booked directly with Royal. I would encourage anyone who wants to go to book ASAP. If the price goes down, they can get a price reduction from Royal before they pay their final payment. They may not be able to book a cabin near us. Royal told me we grabbed the last 3. However, travel agents routinely save blocks of rooms, so there is a chance they can get a cabin near us at a later date when the rooms are released.
Here's a way to save money on this cruise: Royal is currently offering 30,000 bonus points if you sign up for their credit card (see their website for details). That translates to $300 in onboard credit. You just have to spend $1,000 on the card in the first 90 days. You will have all of this year to continue to earn points towards your cruise after that. I suggest you use the card to pay off your balance as well, as you earn 2X the points spent on Royal.
I will continue throughout the year to keep you all updated on any information and developments as I become aware of them.
