Ahoy, SSYC’ers!
“Summer Hibachi Series”. Our next event is Wednesday, August 20th with the 1st warning at 1800 Hours. We’ll be on “Molokai Girl” that will pick us up at Marina Park at 1600 W. Balboa Boulevard. You will need to be there on the dock at 5:00 PM as we depart at 5:15 PM for the starting area Westerly of Harbor Island.
If you’d like to join us on the Race Committee boat, now’s your chance. No experience required. It just takes a handful of people to run the two starts and record finish times.
So, if you’d simply like to get out on the water, watch the racing and enjoy dinner and drinks in Newport Harbor, that’s okay, too. You’re responsible for your own dinner, drinks and rubber-soled shoes. No red wine, please, as a spill can stain the deck.
If you’d like to be on the Race Committee boat, please register ASAP as space is limited. Guests are welcome, but need to sign a waiver.

Thanks and we’ll see you on the water!

Deadline: We will have a 2025 Shrimptastic T shirt for everyone that is registered by Monday August 4th.
August will soon be here and that means it is time to cruise to Two Harbors

Thursday at 5pm, we will all meet aboard Molokai Girl for the Commodore's Champagne Toast.
Friday Noon to 2pm. Dinghy Scavenger Hunt.
The start will be at Molokai Girl at noon. Each skipper will be given instructions, a sandwich, a bag of chips and a bottle of water for each member on the dinghy. Prizes will be awarded to the crew that has accumulated the most points.
On Friday afternoon starting at 4pm, we will have our fun progressive dinghy drive up cocktails and appetizer event. Please keep in mind that there will be about 7 or 8 boats and so keep the cocktails and appetizers in the appropriate size. Please choose a theme and dress up for that theme and you can even decorate your boat! We will have a dinghy parade around the harbor before we head to Molokai Girl for the last cocktails and appetizers.
On Saturday we reserved Lounge chairs on the Beach from 11 am to 4pm. A wonderful time to socialize and mingle with your South Shore friends and family. You can order food and drinks directly from your lounge chairs and they will be brought to you by the friendly Harbor Reefs servers.
Our extremely popular Shrimptastic Dinner will be on Saturday starting at 6pm. We will be serving Shrimp Tacos that are being prepared by Julie and Issa that will have flavors of the Middle East and Louisiana. We would appreciate all the other boats bringing a side dish or salad that is enough for 6 to 8 people. We expect about 25 people for the weekend.
Please let us know if you are bringing a boat or if you are coming on someone else’s boat and whose boat you are on.
Also, please let us know if you do not eat Shrimp.

SOUTH SHORE YACHT CLUB CRUISE COMMITTEE
Molokai Girl, Two Harbors, Catalina
We have the last race of the Summer Hibachi Series on Wednesday, August 27th. We’re going to make it special and fun! Once we have started the boats for Race 12, the Race Committee boat, Molokai Girl, will relocate to the anchorage just South of W mark.
We plan to raft up in the anchorage for the trophy presentation that includes Calamari, Chicken wings, Beer, Wine and Margaritas. We’ll present the perpetual trophy for the Summer Hibachi Series with take home trophies, our August winners and the last race winners.
It promises to be a lot of fun! “Molokai Girl” will pick us up at the Marina Park at 1600 W. Balboa Boulevard. You will need to be there on the dock at 5:00 PM as we depart at 5:15 PM for the starting area Westerly of Harbor Island. We will return about 8:30pm.
So, if you’d simply like to get out on the water, watch the racing and enjoy dinner and drinks in Newport Harbor, that’s okay, too. OK to bring something different to drink. No red wine, please, as a spill can stain the deck and wear rubber-soled shoes.
If you’d like to be on the Race Committee boat, please register ASAP as space is limited. No Guests, unless they have an invitation from the Membership Committee Chair. Guests need to sign a waiver.

If anyone wants to join our group on the cruise, they should call the number above and provide the group number and name. They will NOT get our same fare; they will need to pay the current fare offered by Royal. Unlike when we went through the travel agent, who was able to hold a block of rooms at a certain price, we are booked directly with Royal. I would encourage anyone who wants to go to book ASAP. If the price goes down, they can get a price reduction from Royal before they pay their final payment. They may not be able to book a cabin near us. Royal told me we grabbed the last 3. However, travel agents routinely save blocks of rooms, so there is a chance they can get a cabin near us at a later date when the rooms are released.
Here's a way to save money on this cruise: Royal is currently offering 30,000 bonus points if you sign up for their credit card (see their website for details). That translates to $300 in onboard credit. You just have to spend $1,000 on the card in the first 90 days. You will have all of this year to continue to earn points towards your cruise after that. I suggest you use the card to pay off your balance as well, as you earn 2X the points spent on Royal.
I will continue throughout the year to keep you all updated on any information and developments as I become aware of them.
